Cclxx. Clinical Tests for Bilirubin in Urine
نویسنده
چکیده
THE usual tests for bilirubinuria in routine clinical work are relatively insensitive; that this has long been recognised is shown by the various attempts to introduce more sensitive tests from time to time, but none of these has been widely employed. The object of this paper is to review once more the available methods, and to describe a simple yet very sensitive test which, in the opinion of the writer, could with advantage be generally adopted in clinical work. In order to compare the relative sensitivity of the different tests on a quantitative basis, it was necessary in the first instance to be able to estimate the amount of bilirubin in the urines examined. For this purpose the diazo-method [Hunter, 1930] has been modified to yield a satisfactory quantitative procedure.

The aim of the present studyis radiographic evaluation of urinary system and the effect of urografin on clinical parameters, urinalysis and renal function tests in sheep. Six clinically healthy female sheep were selected for this study. Before experiment, vital signs were recorded. Blood and urine samples were collected prior to the trials and paraclinical examinations were performed. Uri...
متن کاملAre unexpected positive dipstick urine bilirubin results clinically significant? A retrospective review.
BACKGROUND Urine-bilirubin measurement is common in urinalysis dipsticks, which are known to yield a high rate of false positive results. We evaluated the usefulness of this test after multiple physicians in our system reported that they do not act on positive dipstick urine bilirubin findings. METHODS We queried past records to determine how many samples with positive urine bilirubin results...
متن کاملThe Renal Threshold for Bilirubin.
There appears to be scanty evidence as to the exact renal threshold for bilirubin. Van den Bergh (1928) states that it is 1/50,000 (2 mg. /100 ml.) with remarkably few exceptions, but does not say how exact this estimate is, apparently basing his statement on numerous disconnected observations. This figure appears to be quoted by others. Weiss (1935) observes: "It is stated that bile does not a...

Tribulus terrestris herb has been used as a drug in traditional medicine and its toxic effects have also been reported. Less attention has been paid to the interpretation of pathological and laboratory findings in the natural form poisoning with this plant in animals. Following a report of mortalities in a sheep farm feeding on a pasture containing Tribulus terrestris herb and involvement of 50...

Background: Neonatal jaundice is clinically presented in 60% of full-term newborns. About 8% of newborns with jaundice have urinary tract infection (UTI) without any other clinical signs in favor of UTI. In present study we evaluated clinical and paraclinical data that help to rapid and early diagnosis of UTI in apparently healthy newborns with jaundice. Methods: From February to August 2006, 5...
